Fortress Backup Power didn't begin as a startup idea. It began as a standard — the standard Tom Lowrie had already set for every home Plattner Builders delivered.
A division of Plattner Builders — Charlotte's luxury home building standard, extended to power security.
Tom Lowrie is the owner of Plattner Builders, one of Charlotte, North Carolina's most respected luxury home building companies. For years, Plattner Builders has been installing high-end liquid-cooled generator systems, battery backup solutions, solar panel integrations, EV charging infrastructure, and complete power security systems as a core part of every home they build. Not as an afterthought. Not as an upgrade. As a standard.
After years of designing and installing these systems in some of the region's finest properties, Tom saw that the broader market had a serious problem. Homeowners and business owners who wanted genuine power security were being sold air-cooled, aluminum-finned generators that looked adequate on paper but failed when conditions got serious. One storm. One extended outage. And the system that was supposed to protect the family or keep the business running simply wasn't up to the task.
Fortress Backup Power is Tom's answer to that problem. It is the power division Plattner Builders built internally — now made available to the wider community. The same engineering rigor. The same equipment standards. The same installation quality. The same long-term service commitment. Extended to any property owner who refuses to accept anything less than a system that will actually perform when it matters most.
Tom's passion for this business is rooted in something straightforward: safety and security.
